Das gentechnische Meisterstück, pflanzliche Zellen mit jenen des Monsters Godzilla zu kreuzen, ruft ausländische Agenten auf den Plan. Die Tochter des erfolgreichen Wissenschaftlers Shiragami bezahlt deren Überfall mit dem Leben. Der verzweifelte Vater entwickelt aus den Zellen seiner Lieblingsrose und denen des Monsters den Megaklon Biolante. Diese Superpflanze muß auch sogleich gegen Godzilla antreten. Das Monster, geweckt durch Eruptionen im heimischen Vulkankrater und bereits auf dem Weg nach Tokio, muß gestoppt werden. Biolante unterliegt in dem Zweikampf, auch die neue Superwaffe X-2 ist dem Super-Echse nicht gewachsen Erst ein junger Wissenschaftler setzt dem Ungeheuer ein Ende.
